What is run the wild?
Run the Wild is a navigation marathon that includes orienteering and trail running. Teams of two (or three, by arrangement) race across varied terrain for up to six hours, navigating with map and compass. The race will combine point-to-point orienteering, trail running, and a "rogaine" format on a variety of maps (1:5000 to 1:50000, plus Google Earth images, and local trail maps). The goal is to get the most amount of points in the given time.....or to have the most fun ... or both.
Prizes are awarded to the first place male, female and coed teams.
This race is suited to anyone who loves spending time in the woods and outdoors. Adventure racers, enduro-orienteering enthusiasts, trail runners and beginners are welcome. Some experience with basic map and compass navigation is helpful but not necessary. Check out your local orienteering club to practice your skills. Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club has events running throughout the year.
