2024 RTW DETAILS
Run The Wild will return for yet another year on 4th-5th October. Your favourite navigation race will revisit one of your favourite maps - Eager Hill Cranbrook. It's been 9 years since Run The Wild was in the east Kootenays and we're excited about going back there this fall. The main event takes place on Saturday, but we will also have a prologue race on the Friday night in Kimberley (6.00-7.30 pm). This will be staged out of the Platzl in the middle of town. Dust off your orienteering skills, win extra door prize tickets, and socialize with your competition over a friendly pint (it's Oktoberfest weekend after all). Teams participating in Friday evening's event might get a small advantage in Saturday's main event. A map sneak peak? A clue to a Run the Wild special activity? You'll have to be there to find out. Note: The Saturday main event is a standalone and if you cannot make the Friday night prologue, your score will not be affected.
The Eager Hill map is runnable, with open ponderosa and larch forest, interesting rock features, and amazing views of the Rockies (check out the photos below). It's orienteering bliss at it's best.
You can expect: night prologue on urban trails, Rogaine-style score-O, a trail run component, and the usual Run the Wild added surprise. The course is designed for beginner and seasoned orienteers. Create a route that makes the most of your skills, fitness, and mood! All this in a 6 hour event. And that's a hard cap on the time, expect big penalties if you're late.

Accommodations
It's a short 25 minute drive between Kimberley and Cranbrook so either location works for the race weekend. There are plenty of Airbnb, hotel/motel, or camping options in the area. Cranbrook is about 4.5 hours from Calgary or Revelstoke, 3.5 hours from Canmore.
This year's event is jointly hosted by Foothills Wanderers Orienteering Club and Kootenay Orienteering Club.
